For the last 20 years most MFDs have scanned to email via plain authentication but in response to the ever-growing threats to network security, Microsoft are removing the support of plain smtp and forcing the adoption of OAuth multi-factor authentication.

Effectively this means that most MFDs won’t be able to scan to email. Many older MFD devices will be incapable of scanning using the new protocol and will cease to function. Other MFDs will require network changes and firmware updates to make them compatible.

This Microsoft shutdown will take effect in early 2026 which may seem like a long way off, but we all know how quickly things like this can creep up on you, so it’s best to get it sorted now!

Aurora’s Professional Services experts can help you in the changes happening and if the solution is upgrading, our team can guide you to the best device for you.
